The LightHouse shines brighter as we share the Good News about Christ with His most precious children! Join a dynamic and energetic team of volunteers whose only requirement is a love for children and a heart for God! Below is a list of positions and brief descriptions of volunteer opportunities. Email us if you are interested in submitting a volunteer application or if you need more information before submitting a volunteer application. All volunteers will need to submit to a criminal records check. Choose to make a difference!

Sunday Mornings
Sunday School at The LightHouse
Join us in The LightHouse on the second floor each Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. for fun and learning! The fun begins at 9:15 a.m. in The Fun Zone!
Fun Zone Captain
This position requires a fun-minded person! You will play games with the children in our game room, while keeping a watchful eye out for “horseplay.” Your time commitment can be either 9:15 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. or 10:20 a.m. – 10:55 a.m.. Please consider joining our list of rotating volunteers!
LightHouse Greeter
This position requires someone with a friendly attitude to be the first smiling face as guest and members arrive at The LightHouse. You will make sure our children are properly signed in using our new automated check in system and be available to direct visitors to the appropriate classes. Your time commitment is 9:15 a.m. – 9:45 a.m. every Sunday morning (on a rotating basis).
LightHouse Keeper (Sunday School Teacher)
This position is for anyone ready to be blessed by children! You will facilitate the lessons and lead the children through age-appropriate activities. There’s no prep work for you! We will gather all the supplies needed for your session. Your job is to be familiar with the lesson and have an open heart to questions and children’s understanding of the topic.
Assistant LightHouse Keeper
This position is for anyone who loves being a helper! You’ll assist a Lead LightHouse Keeper in facilitating the Sunday lesson and give a hand to children participating in a variety of activities. You will be blessed by the children’s understanding of the lesson.
LightHouse Substitute
This position is for those of you who are willing to serve on an as-needed basis on Sunday mornings in any of the aforementioned volunteer opportunities.
Trigue (Sunday morning youth volunteers)
Youth, grades 6 – 12, can choose to volunteer in the nursery/preschool or elementary areas. In the nursery/preschool area, volunteers play with and provide care for our littlest angels. In the elementary area, opportunities to serve include playing with children in the Fun Zone, lesson/event preparation, Audio/Visual assistance and skit actors and more!
Children’s Church
Children’s Church Leader
You will facilitate the lessons and lead the children through age-appropriate activities. There’s no prep work for you! We will gather all the supplies needed for your session. Your job is to be familiar with the lesson and have an open heart to questions and children’s understanding of the topic. Set up, implementation, clean up and communication are what is needed with this position.
Children’s Church Rotation Volunteer
Provide help, where needed, to the children’s church leader and young participants. Implementation and help with clean up are what is needed with this position.

Join the Children’s Advisory Council because it is the group that is the voice, the hands and feet of the ministry to children. This is a season of change and your ideas are valued! All are welcome to share your input. We are listening for all the new and wonderful ways we will shape the future for children.

Seasonal Opportunities
Vacation Bible School (VBS)
Children’s Ministries hosts’ Vacation Bible School every summer in the third week of June, Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – noon. Participants are children ages three (as of 9/1/12) – fifth grade. There are a multitude of different volunteer opportunities for youth and adults, including teaching, decorating, photography, registration, skits, carpool, classroom assistance and more.
This year’s VBS will take place June 17 – 21, 2013. This year’s theme is KINGDOM ROCK – Where kids stand strong for God. Find volunteer registration on the front page of this web site.
A Walk Through Bethlehem (WTB)
This First Church Orlando tradition is held early in December every year. A Walk Through Bethlehem is a unique live performance, retelling of the classic Christmas story as told in the Gospel of Luke. A multitude of adult, youth and children volunteers are needed to stage this production.
Special Needs
Buddy Break
First Church Orlando partners with Nathaniel’s Hope “Buddy Break,” a FREE respite program designed to give caregivers of kids & adults with special needs (VIP kids) a break from their ongoing care-giving responsibilities for three hours on the fouth weekend of every month. Each VIP child at Buddy Break is paired up with a “Buddy” for one-on-one attention as everyone has fun playing games, hearing and seeing great children’s stories, videos, music and more while giving the caregivers a much needed break!
Who are Buddies?
Buddies are volunteers and friends of VIPs. No previous experience with VIP kids is necessary to be a Buddy, just a loving heart, open arms and a willingness to learn. Screened volunteer Buddies are paired one-to-one with a VIP kid. Buddies must be at least 16 years old, complete a two-hour Buddy Training 101 program and agree to have his/her background checked.
BUDDY 101 Trainings are held at least once a month here at First Church. We need YOU to make a difference in the lives of our VIP children. Please email Vandie Loper if you feel led to serve with us.
