The Skylight Youth Ministry
The Youth Ministry of First Church, The Skylight, is committed to helping youth in sixth through twelfth grade experience the love of Christ and learn how to share that love with the world. Led by Youth Director Justin Cox, the Skylight provides a way for youth to develop their faith in God and build relationships with other Christian youth and adults.

High School Retreat: January 17-20, 2014
In January we’re having a retreat just for high school students at the Centenary Camp west of Tallahassee. We’ll enjoy some colder weather while exploring our gifts and learning how to better connect with each other and our God. To allow our high school students to fully experience the weekend, a team of college students will be our leadership team for this special retreat. The total cost is $80 if you sign up by December 8 ($90 after that). Don’t miss out on this wonderful opportunity. To sign up, simply turn in your money to Justin.
Walk Through Bethlehem: December 8, 5:30 p.m.
The annual Walk Through Bethlehem is Sunday, December 8 at 5:30 p.m. Youth Group will not meet so those interested can participate in this event. Youth Group will return the following week.
Whirly Ball Blast: December 15, 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Whirly Ball is wiffle-ball jai alai set in bumper cars. What can be better than that? Meet at the church at 12:30 p.m. with $20, a waiver (fill out online), and close-toe shoes and we’ll head to the Whirly Dome for unlimited Whirly Ball and a pizza lunch. We’ll be back to the church around 3:30 p.m.
Dave and Busters Blast: December 22, 12:30 – 3:30 p.m.
Unlimited buffet of food and unlimited video games for $20? That’s what you get if you come with us to Dave and Busters! Meet at the church at 12:30 p.m. with your money and we’ll head to Dave and Busters for food and fun. We’ll be back to the church around 3:30 p.m.

Sunday Night’s at the Skylight
GSUS Youth Worship Team – 4:00 p.m.
The GSUS (G-suspended) Youth Worship Team meets Sunday afternoons at 4:00 p.m. to practice and center their hearts on leading worship for Sunday evening. Youth who have a heart for worship and enjoy singing or playing musical instruments are encouraged to participate.
Youth Choir – 4:30 p.m. (on hiatus)
Interested in singing in a more traditional choir setting? Then join the Youth Choir. They meet at 4:30 pm in the Choir Room on the second floor.
Youth Group – 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Youth are encouraged to attend youth group on Sunday evenings as a way to learn about Jesus’ love for them personally and how to share that love with the world. Youth Group meets every Sunday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. During this time the youth have a $3 snack supper ($1 of which goes to support our two Compassion Kids), discuss topics in age specific small groups and engage in a youth lead worship service. Topics discussed are centered around themes specific to each age group: 6th grade, 7th and 8th grade, and high school. The topics for the year are brainstormed by youth at the All Youth Retreat and are led weekly by our adult volunteers.
Sunday Morning Opportunities
Our goal on Sunday mornings is to engage youth throughout the church body as well has help them develop their own worship and church habits.
Valet Service – 9:15 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and noon
Youth can help serve in our Sunday morning valet service. If they have had their license for at least six months, they can apply to be a driver. Youth of all ages are welcome to help greet people and fill out valet tickets.
Worship Service – 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
Youth are always encouraged to participate in the morning worship services, especially if there is an opportunity to worship with their families. The 9:30 a.m. service is contemporary in nature and is in the second floor Contemporary Worship Center and the 11:00 a.m. service is traditional in nature and found in the Sanctuary.
LightHouse Volunteers – 9:30 a.m.
Youth are welcome to help out in the LightHouse by serving in the children’s Sunday School classrooms, the Fun Zone, the nursery, or by helping to prepare for future Children’s Ministry activities.
What in the World with Walt and John – 9:30 a.m.
Every Sunday in the Gathering Space, Walt Beaver and John Foster lead a small group discussion about current event topics and how God’s presence can be seen in them. Youth are encouraged to bring topics they are interested in talking about.
Foundations – 11:00 a.m.
Foundations is a Sunday morning experience for youth that surrounds an in-depth study of the entire Bible. Youth will dig deeper into the lessons and context of individual books of the Bible in an engaging and illuminating way. Foundations meets Sunday mornings at 11 a.m.
EPIC (also known as Confirmation) – 11:00 a.m.
Epic, also known as Confirmation, is a class for 8th through 12th grade students that focuses on what the student’s Epic journey through life is all about. The goal is for participants to have a clearer understanding of what they believe, and to have a group of people that complete their Epic journey together. Classes meet most Sunday mornings throughout the school year from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Mission Leadership Team – 11:00 a.m.
Mission Leadership Team is an opportunity for juniors and seniors to fully define their faith and discover who God has created them to be before they graduate high school. There’s also a special Mission Leadership Team mission trip at the beginning of the summer. Mission Leadership Team meets six times a year and begins with a personal meeting with youth and their parents in September.
Wednesday Night Core
The Core is a group for youth to discuss upcoming youth worship topics. Each week an in-depth look at the worship topic, scripture, and other devotional material will help bring new understanding of the subject. Through the Core’s discussion, worship topics are finalized for the whole youth group. The Core is open to all youth interested in exploring Biblical themes in a new way.
