Youth are encouraged to attend youth group on Sunday evenings as a way to have fun, start understanding what God’s message is all about, and to grow and strengthen their relationship with God. Youth Group meets every Sunday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. During this time the youth have a $2 snack supper, discuss topics in age specific small groups and engage in a youth lead worship service. Topics discussed are centered around themes specific to each age group: 6th grade, 7th and 8th grade, and high school. The topics are planned by youth on the All Youth Retreat and at The Core and are led by our adult volunteers.
Trigue is our Sunday morning program for youth. Its goal is to engage youth throughout the church body as well has help them develop their own worship and church habits. This is the basic schedule:
Youth meet with adult volunteers in the 9:30 a.m. Contemporary Worship Service to worship together. At the announcement time, youth have the option to engage in multiple service opportunities throughout the church or are welcome to continue to worship in the service. Service opportunities include working in The LightHouse, helping people find parking, cooking and serving food, working in the nursery, working with Feed the Need, and serving in the Contemporary Worship Service. Youth Choir also rehearses at this time. Service opportunities conclude between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. At that time, youth gather together before the next block of time begins. At 11 a.m., youth have options to help them grow in their faith. Options include Dig, an inductive bible study; Respond, a chance to watch the morning’s sermon and discuss its implication; EPIC, which has more details below; Mission Leadership Team, which has more details below; or choose to participate in worship at the 11 a.m. Worship Service.
The Core is the leadership team for our youth group. The group meets every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The group discusses the topics for Sunday night, explores relevant scripture, and searches for where God is leading the discussion. As a result of the discussion, the Sunday evening youth worship service is developed. The Core helps youth explore their own beliefs while providing leadership for the youth group.
Epic, formerly Confirmation, is a class for 8th through 12th graders that focuses on what the student’s Epic journey through life is all about. The goal is for participants to have a clearer understanding of what they believe, and to have a group of people that complete their Epic journey together. Classes meet weekly throughout the school year on Sunday mornings.
The Mission Leadership Team is a group of highly committed 11th and 12th grade students who have a desire to lead their youth group as well as explore their faith in a deep and personal way. They meet monthly for three hours to discuss leadership, their personalities and explore their beliefs. Over the course of the year, students discover the depth of their faith and who God has created them to be. Through this experience, they provide leadership in countless ways throughout the youth group and the church. At the end of the year, a special Mission Leadership Team Mission Trip is led by the team. The Mission Leadership Team also provides all of the leadership on the high school mission trip at the end of the summer. Mission Leadership Team meetings begin with individual meetings in September and the group closes to new members in October.
The GSUS (G-suspended) Youth Worship Team meets weekly at 4:00 p.m. to practice and center their hearts on leading worship for Sunday evening. Youth who have a heart for worship and enjoy singing or play music are encouraged to participate.
Every summer more than 100 youth participate in our four mission trips.
Retreats are typically weekend-long events that occur throughout the year. Below you’ll find a list of retreats that are typically offered annually.
Share Groups are small groups meet regularly throughout the school year. They are led by adult volunteers and are an opportunity for youth to meet together in a 100% confidential environment to share their struggles and successes leading a Christ-centered life. Groups are open for new members at the beginning of their formation, but then close in order to build trust between the participating members. New share groups can be formed at any time. If youth are interested in forming a group, they are encouraged to contact Justin to help them get started.
A free karate class is offered on Wednesdays, 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. All are welcome (including women and children). Loose clothing or gi is recommended. The classes develop mind, body and spirit in a Christian environment. For more details contact John Darin.
