Parents of Youth
Parents are essential to the Skylight’s ministry. They provide a valuable source of guidance and support in the development of their youth’s faith. We encourage parents to be active in their youth’s involvement in The Skylight. This page provides information specific to youth parents.
Monthly Parents Newsletter
At the beginning of each month Justin sends out a Parents Newsletter. Click here to subscribe to this email (be sure to select the box for “Youth – Parent’s Newsletter”). You will always have the ability to unsubscribe should you choose. You can also sign up for special, very-rare, text message alerts. To sign up for our Youth Parents Text Message List, click here.
Youth must have a current Consent Form filled out, notarized and turned in before attending the first overnight trip each year. Fill out the form and return it to the church office any time.
Policies and Procedures
The Children and Youth Policies and Procedures is the guide that all of our activities and programming adhere to. They outline, in detail, all processes to follow on Sunday nights, on trips and in the event of an emergency. This is required reading for all potential volunteers. By signing a youth Consent Form you are agreeing that you will abide by and have read the Policies and Procedures. The Policies and Procedures was last updated on March 19, 2013.
Snack Supper is the number one way that we involve parents in our ministry. Parents are assigned one Sunday a year to provide dinner at youth group. This allows parents to participate with us on a Sunday evening as well as feed the group. Detailed information about what serving Snack Super means, as well as this year’s schedule can be found in the 2013 – 2014 Snack Supper Schedule.
Youth Group Messages
Most of the messages given at Sunday night youth worship are posted online as they are given. A full collection can be found on our Tumblr page.
Youth Group Discussion Topics
This section is provided to help you to interact with your youth as they come home from youth group. Upcoming topics and parent explanations are provided here so that you can continue the conversations started at youth group throughout the week.
