Free Dinner & Class Preview Night

Wednesday, August 30, 5:30 – 7:00 pm

From creative arts classes for children to fitness classes for all ages and a host of new study groups for adults, we dedicated our first Wednesday night back to previewing all the new fall class offerings.

Did we mention that dinner is free? Bring a friend, enjoy a nice meal, and find a class that will move you forward on your spiritual journey.

Wednesday Night Classes

  • Children's Ministry

    Children’s Creative Arts/Theatre Class

    • Begins September 6 | 5:45 – 7:30 pm weekly through May
    • Pre-K drop-off is in the Nursery. Elementary drop-off in the FunZone
    • Facilitators: Felicia Coleman & Gabrielle Toledo

    Throughout the year, children will have the opportunity to learn about yoga, various fine arts, and theatre skills. If your child is involved with choir they will have the opportunity to rotate in and out of class.

    Children’s Choir

    • Rehearsal begins August 23 | Pre-K-1st grade: 6:10 pm | 2nd-5th grade: 6:45 pm, weekly through May

    Please join us for an exciting year in Children’s Choir! Choirs rehearse weekly and sing approximately once a month in worship services. They also participate in larger musical productions and choir festivals. As the children develop their voices and musical skills, they learn to express their faith and lead others in worship.   • Youth Ministry

    The Core

    • Begins September 6 | 6:30 – 7:30 pm weekly through May

    The Core is a group for youth to discuss upcoming worship topics and make decisions for the Youth Ministry. Each week an in-depth look at the worship topic, scripture, and other devotional material will help bring new understanding of the subject. The Core is open to youth interested in exploring Biblical themes in a new and deep way.

    Pastor’s Bible Study

    • Begins September 6 | 6:00 – 7:00 pm weekly through May 2018

    Interested in learning more about the Bible? Want to dive deeper into the weekly sermon scripture? Join us for the Pastor’s Bible Study, led by the preaching pastor for the upcoming sermon. We will explore the historical, linguistic, and theological features of the scripture text and how the text can shape our faith and practice as followers of Christ.

    Financial Peace University

    • Begins September 6 | 6:00 – 7:30 pm weekly through November 8

    Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University (FPU) is a proven course that will transform the way you view and handle money. Through video teaching, class discussions, and interactive small group activities, FPU presents Biblical, practical steps to get from where you are to where you’ve dreamed you could be. The course includes how to get rid of debt, manage your money, spend and save wisely, and much more.

    Saving Jesus

    • Begins September 6 | 6:00 – 7:30 pm weekly through November 29

    Ever feel like Jesus has been kidnapped by the Christian Right and discarded by the Secular Left? Saving Jesus is a 12-session DVD-based small group exploration of the message and mission of Jesus for the third millennium.

    Living the Questions

    • Begins September 6 | 6:00 – 7:30 pm weekly through April 2018
    • Facilitator: Deborah Hill

    Study of the hard questions and issues that confront Christians. Participants will view and discuss a 30-minute video, supplemented by brief material to read and questions to answer at home in preparation for each week. This study is designed for individuals who have some background and experience with Christian thought and teachings.

    The Other Sheep (LGBTQ)

    Wesley Way

    • Begins September 6 | 6:00 pm & Sunday, September 10 | 6:30 pm weekly through October

    New to First United Methodist Church of Orlando or to United Methodism in general? Join us for the “Wesley Way,” an interactive class in which we will explore beliefs and practices within United Methodism and answer questions about our tradition, faith, and theology.

    Reformation

    • Begins October 4 | 6:00 – 7:00 pm 4 weeks
    • Facilitator: Ron Lee

    The 500th Anniversary of The Reformation will take place this Fall! Join us as we learn more about Martin Luther and this transformative period within the Christian faith and tradition. Weekly themes will include Scripture, Grace, Jesus, and the Sacraments.

    Community Yoga

    • Year-round | 6:30 pm

    Join us Wednesdays on the third floor for Community Yoga! We begin with meditation, transition into a devotion, and end with yoga flow during this hour-long session. This activity is open to all levels of experience, including new yogis. Please dress in yoga or exercise attire and bring your mat, water, and a friend. Extra mats will be available.
