Disaster Relief

We assist local families in need following natural disasters, have taken several mission trips to areas affected by disaster and make a yearly trip to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) facility in Louisiana. Ed and Gloria Lobnitz help coordinate our disaster relief efforts.

Mission Trips

In 2011, our church will send several adult and family mission teams. If you are interested in joining any of these teams, or getting more information, email us.

  • A teams is forming to travel to Guatemala with Faith Project International in July. This is an organization started by church members Brad and Christina Cowherd, who served in the Peace Corps in Guatemala. For more information, contact Brad at brad@infusiontea.us.
  • Our congregation has been deeply involved in a project called the Zion Methodist Children’s Home, with inspiration from Rev. Gene Zimmerman. We spent supplies and mission teams to help with the construction of a new children’s home in the Bahamas last year. If you are interested in a helping with donations or on a future trip, please contact the church.
  • A group from the Central Florida chapter of the Fuller Center for Housing will be heads to a “blitz build” week in Louisiana annually, joining teams from around the country as each group looks to build a house in one week.
  • Each fall, we send an Adult Mission Team to UMCOR Sager-Brown depot in Baldwin, Louisiana. The work is varied and generally not physically demanding. Jobs include sorting and packing donated relief supplies, office work, cutting and sewing or doing house repairs in the Baldwin area. The Depot is the processing center for Methodist relief supplies coming from churches throughout the United States, and subsequently sent to disaster areas throughout the world.
  • Our youth ministry takes four mission teams each year. Discover more about these trips in the youth section of our website by clicking here. Every summer there are four youth mission trips to places as close as Jacksonville as far as Argentina. Trips are offered to youth of all ages and skill levels. For more information and details about this year’s trips, visit Youth Mission Trips.
