FREE MUSICAL PERFORMANCE IN DOWNTOWN ORLANDO

ORLANDO, FL – The 60-piece Orlando Concert Band will present a free performance, Popular and Patriotic Favorites, at First United Methodist Church of Orlando, Sunday, September 30 at 3 p.m. This event not only features the concert band but also soprano soloist Mary Beth Ortiz, along with Him Tunes, the men’s quartet from First United Methodist Church of Orlando.
Featured vocal selections on the program include favorites “God Bless the USA,” “You Raise Me Up,” “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” “I Dreamed a Dream,” and “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” The concert band will also perform “Salute to Richard Rodgers,” “Tribute to American Jazz,” “A Cohan Medley” and a Leroy Anderson tribute.
After obtaining her music degree from Indiana University, Ortiz toured the United States with “The Singing Hoosiers,” performing with the Cincinnati and the Detroit Pops under the direction of Conductor Erich Kunzel. Her professional singing career continued at Cedar Point Amusement Park in Ohio and Opryland in Nashville, Tennessee. Today, Ortiz now delights audiences as a stuntwoman at Walt Disney World’s Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular.
Him Tunes is a men’s quartet drawn from the Chancel Choir at First United Methodist Church of Orlando where they sing monthly as well as for church events and community gatherings. Their repertoire includes spirituals, hymn arrangements and original compositions for four-part men.
Since 1989, Orlando Concert Band Music Director Jon Territo has worked as a conductor and musician with various artists and musical ensembles throughout Central Florida. These include The Orlando Philharmonic, Walt Disney World musical groups, The Celebration Orchestra at First Baptist Church of Orlando, Lane and Company, and the Florida Young Artists Orchestra. Now band director for Valencia College, Territo is an active clinician, conductor, performer and speaker around Central Florida. He earned a Masters Degree in Music Education from Rollins College.
This free community concert is offered by a partnership between the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, First United Methodist Church of Orlando and the Orlando Concert Band.
