The Brain Fitness Club is a strengths-based program that supports individuals experiencing early memory loss. This ministry of First Church serves individuals diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment or early dementia who are mindful of the challenges they are experiencing and choose to participate in group activities that promote brain health. Prior to enrollment, participants undergo a standardized cognitive assessment and a personal interview to ensure that the program content will meet their needs. Meetings are held two days per week for four hours each day. Membership fees cover program costs. Funding for scholarships allows members of all income levels to be included, with a sliding-scale fee offered to those on a limited income.
Without programs like The Brain Fitness Club, individuals with early dementia can feel alone and struggle to fit in. The Brain Fitness Club boosts self-esteem and helps members celebrate their strengths, rather than focus on their challenges.
