It’s now officially Fall. As I type this the temperature is in the upper 60’s and the air is crisp. Sure, it won’t last for long, but it’s a welcome change to our normal heat and humidity. For me, fall means gratitude and thanksgiving.
In the church, we’re entering into a time of Stewardship. Throughout our Stewardship process, we invite people to pledge their gifts for our 2019 budget. It’s through these gifts, no matter the size, that we put together our ministry budget.
I was recently asked to write a stewardship letter that was sent to people who pledged to the church for 2018. I wanted to share the letter with you below, in case you might not have seen it.
94% of the 2018 Youth Ministry budget is dedicated to mission trips and retreats. These are amazing opportunities for teenagers to experience rest and seek God in new ways. The transformation students experience would require many letters to explain.
The trips are also expensive, requiring transportation, housing, food, and a team of volunteer adults taking time from work. This is why so much of the budget contributes to their expenses. However, despite only 6% of the budget supporting the rest of the year, amazing ministry happens every week.
In the Spring I sent a survey out to all the students in our Youth Ministry. I asked “what is your favorite part of Youth Group?”. Youth Group meets from 5:30 – 7:30 pm on Sundays and includes snacks, games, small groups, and 5:30 Worship, so answers could have gone in several directions.
The most common answer? Communion at the 5:30 Worship service.
Through your continued and generous gifts, First United Methodist Church of Orlando is developing teenagers who enjoy and look forward to the sacraments of worship. Through these sacraments, youth develop a heart to seek and love God, love and serve people.
Thank you for your gifts of prayers and resources. They support our students in countless ways and I am extremely grateful.
I really am grateful for any and all gifts that are made to the church as they help us continue our mission in Orlando. Let me invite you to make a pledge for 2019.
