Our theme for January is “Dream Big”, based on Bob Goff’s book by the same name. On Sundays, the sermons will focus on our personal, individual dreams. On Wednesday nights during January, at 6:30 pm, interested persons will gather to dream about First Church’s future. We recognize that everyone can’t come to church for four consecutive Wednesday nights. Hopefully you can, but maybe not. Even if you can’t, Pastor Vance would love to hear your dreams for First Church. So, if you CAN’T join us on Wednesday nights, but you do have a dream (or dreams), would you share them with him? If you are willing, send him an email at Vance@FirstChurchOrlando.org, and tell him about those dreams!
As you think about what you will write, we’d like to offer the following suggestions …
- A “dream” is more than a personal preference, taste, or bias.
- A “dream” is more than something we used to do at First Church.
- A “dream” is more than something you’ve heard of other churches doing.
A dream is bigger than that. A dream is forward looking. And, dreams ought to be exciting, and inspiring. Dreams worth pursuing tend to require sweat and effort, and prayer.
The kind of dreams we’re talking about begin with God.
While we’re sure we could all think of some good ideas, may we suggest that God has the very best ideas for First Church? Our job isn’t just to dream-up our own dreams for First Church. Our job is to ask God, “What are your dreams for First Church?” And, then listen.
We hope you can join us on this journey. Let’s Dream Big Together!
