SERVE

First United Methodist Church of Orlando offers a variety of opportunities for people of all ages to serve. A description of each is below. For more information about any of these opportunities, please contact us and we will connect you with a representative from each group.

Serve Our Church

Audio/Video Team
This team serves by helping produce quality worship experiences for all those attending worship and special events. No experience required, just a passion for playing a behind-the-scenes role in worship. Contact Mason Crain, Director of Technical Arts.

Children and Youth Ministry Volunteers
Volunteers are always needed to help our children and youth explore their faith and develop a community of support. Commitments range from one-time event volunteers to reoccurring small group leaders. For more information about opportunities, or to request more information, visit our children and youth ministry volunteer page.

Coffee Ministry
Sitting down to catch up with others over coffee in the First Church Cafe on Sunday mornings is an opportunity to build relationships and community. Serve by preparing fresh coffee for Sunday fellowship.

Communion Stewards
Prepare the essential communion elements on the 1st Sunday of each month, set the altar space for Worship, and take communion to members unable to attend worship.

Flower Ministry - A Reconciling Community
Each Monday, the Sunday altar flowers are repurposed and transformed into beautiful small arrangements that are delivered to friends of First Church. Serve by arranging or delivering flowers.

Hospitality
Greet your church family, friends, and visitors at the Welcome Booth, around the First Church campus, or in the parking lots on Sunday mornings and for special events. Sunday Morning & Special Event Greeters needed! Click here to sign up. Sign-up as often as you want. Simple on-the-job training always provided!

Office Volunteers
Serve by providing administrative assistance to the First Church staff through financial processing, data entry, helping at the reception desk, or assisting with mail-outs.

Pew Attendants
Ensure our worship spaces are maintained and prepared for Sunday worship.

Plant Keepers
The indoor plants at First Church keep our space beautiful and our air clean. Serve by watering and maintaining the plants on a rotating team of dedicated volunteers.

Take Them A Meal
During hectic times in life, First Church volunteers prepare and deliver meals to those in need of comfort and celebration. Serve by preparing a meal for those families in need of care.

Ushers
Serve by greeting and welcoming people into the worship areas on Sunday mornings or for special events. Ushers also collect tithes and offerings and guide the congregation to participate in the sacrament of communion the first Sunday of each month.

Serve Our Community

Coalition For The Homeless
First Church serves a meal to families residing at the Coalition Families Center on the first Monday of every month.

End Childhood Hunger
This ministry provides a food pantry for Wineguard Elementary School and organizes two food giveaways during the Christmas and 4th of July holiday breaks to assist families dependent upon free and reduced lunches.

Family Promise
As one of the host congregations for Family Promise, we provide volunteers, overnight accommodations, and meals for three or four homeless families. Serve by bringing a meal, washing laundry, hosting overnight, and more.

IDignity
On the first Thursday of each month, over 100 volunteers assist clients in obtaining their needed identification documents.

Sewing For Others
A ministry of the United Methodist Women, this group meets Wednesday mornings to work on sewing projects, including clothing for the needy, lap robes, school bags, and more.
