At First United Methodist Church, we believe that Christ calls us to nurture and support one another through all the phases of life from birth and baptism, to confirmation and spiritual formation, to weddings and childbirth, to illness and loss and passage from this life to the life to come. Our courtyard setting for the memorials provides a quiet space for prayer, meditation, reflection, and remembrance.
The Columbarium allows us to extend the Christian tradition of burial on sacred ground to those we love who go before us. Located in the church courtyard, the Columbarium presents a beautiful and peaceful garden setting where families and friends can visit their loved ones easily and conveniently. Just as death is a natural part of life, the service of inurnment is a natural part of our bereavement ministry at First Church. Use of the Columbarium is limited to current and former church members and members of their immediate family. We recommend contacting the church well in advance as part of an estate planning or end-of-life planning process. Those wishing to purchase a Columbarium niche must fill out an application form, and agree to terms and conditions as set forth by the church. Final approval for use of the Columbarium must be granted by the Trustees of the church.
For more information and full guidelines, please contact Kim Curtis, Director of Events, Community Partnerships, and Facilities at the Church.
The Memorial Wall offers a way to memorialize members of the church who are buried elsewhere. The wall is located in the courtyard, adjacent to the entrance to the Gathering Space. The design reflects that of the Columbarium with granite plaques engraved with one or two names, with birth and death dates.
